The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is a professional association in the field of marriage and family therapy. The AAMFT represents more than 25,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad.
The local division to which I belong is the Oklahoma Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (OkAMFT). I am a past President of OKAMFT.
The AAMFT website states a Clinical Fellow has “met the rigorous standards of training in marriage and family therapy and (is) recognized worldwide for these standards.”
Anyone licensed by the state to provide psychotherapy (psychologists, social workers, etc.) can offer marriage counseling or family therapy: the Clinical Fellow designation means they actually have training in how best to work with couples and families.
